Wouldn’t The Long Tail almighty need a nutrient called blog?
Written by admin on September 18, 2007 – 12:26 pm -Let’s think about a picture: Amazon and The Long Tail. Looking at Amazon, I see a scene; composed and ready with countless number of books, just waiting for a customer. In most cases where a netizen gets to buy a book through web search, she visits the site already knowing that the book she wants is at Amazon because she found it on Amazon web site through search. Amazon web site supplies more than enough info (reviews and so forth) and also provides clear guidelines on how to purchase it. So a netizen decides on purchasing the good without too much trouble.
Looking at Korean bloggers, they barely reach a level of conveying a piece of foreign information rather than to come up with a new theory or an extraordinary idea. They are especially interested in self expression and thus difficult to generate value added at this level. But rather can be seen as an excellent content messenger or an assistant who relays a developed creative contents. Eventually, a creative blogger stands out in a typical Korean environment and one can predict an interesting phenomenon where they are well recognized of their value.
Then what is a relationship between The Long Tail and blog?
The “long tail” is the heart of “The Long Tail” and the item information that belongs to the long tail can only be valued by being searched from the search engine thus setting the openness of its information as a premise. Having said that, an information like sufficient review or an in-depth discussion are needed in order to for the item to prove how profitable it is. And this information must be created constantly by talented bloggers with sense.
Then what is the difference between a blog contents and the publishers web site which provides reviews and columns and so forth?
Several publishers may try to raise its value as a content; but inevitably admit its lack of ability in raising its overall value. But bloggers are slightly different; they remained thoroughly subjective as they continuously raised the brand value; and therefore has great power to raise the content value since it can provide reliability and trust.
Due to its attribute, blog starts with and individual and then becomes a brand that produces a content with the information that belongs to the tail of the Long Tail, which in turn induces an affiliation from a foreign global shopping malls. In order words, it enables a constant provision of most reliable value that relates to the product and it will offer a greater added value than just inserting a google keyword ad if those individual contents can be placed in the top search results of the search engine.
You need to keep in mind that trying your best to achieve a perfection is the most important aspect in the relationship between blog and The Long Tail.

Korean Bloggers - scapegoats of ‘The Long Tail’
Written by admin on September 18, 2007 – 11:37 am -The Long Tail is the main flow of Web 2.0 and for that matter one has to consider the relationship between blog and The Long Tail. How will blog and The Long Tail evolve together? and where will its influence reach? is the critical question we need to ask.
“The Long Tail” is quite well know and there are plenty of references on the Internet so I suggest that you look into it if you are required to do so. Here we will focus on blogger’s relationship and “The Long Tail”.
The Long Tail talks about the value of small sized, yet long tails and its the core of The Long Tail. What’s important here is that Amazon, which the book describes a successful case, already build a system that can utilize The Long Tail. Google, too is in the process of creating a database of all human knowledge into a system that will correspond with The Long Tail. In a world where very few top level corporates are ruling the world, our corporates aren’t seem prepared to exceed those corporates of future and the only thing we can do is to watch them from a far as they progress. In fact, those who knows that a value added is actually created in those areas will take it by all means possible.
Then how should those remote, individual bloggers survive together without being sacrificed?
If we look closely, mega corporations like Amazon have already finished all preparations to generate a profit in regards to The Long Tail. For example, bloggers are making profit from the user’s click by placing google ads between the contents about a non-best-seller (corresponds to The Long Tail) at a suitable position on their blog. But a profit made from it is very small portion compare to the overall profit which most of it goes to Amazon (book seller’s profit) or Google (advertisement profit). If you omit the google ads or even go about quitting the blog because you think it isn’t fair, there are many users worldwide who will simply take your seat so eventually it will make no difference to them therefore making a greater overall gap as time progresses. In the end, all bloggers who generate a legitimate value will have to sell their knowledge and know-how in order to increase clicks. In other words; a money making puppet for them.
Then is there really a way to make a profit other than through clicks? Ultimately, all comes down to a preposition: necessity or a choice. That is, you must first decide if you blog is a necessity or a choice; and if this criteria can be recognized by companies like Amazon or google, then you can make a profit as you co-exist with them.
Putting ads into blogs is spreading like trend, but this (ad inserting) will ultimately change the contents to be an Internet Troll therefore combining the contents with ads. But you must remember, the outcome won’t be so gratifying no matter how much effort you put into it.
Why try to follow their scenario as they expect?
